Portraits

For my last images, i'm going to focus on portraits of the children, in Carte De Visite style. The Governess has become completely taken over by the idea that these spirits want to inhabit the children in order to be together again, she can no longer see the children as Innocent creatures

Going to Church with the Governess

For my next Image, i'm going to show he Governess becoming suspicous of the children in the churyard, this is a strong scene in the book and shows her paranoia


In her mind the children are becoming more and more possesed by the ghosts

Film inspiration

For this project I watched two film versions of 'The Turn of the Screw' one BBC version from 2009 and a black and white film made in 1961, called 'The Innocents' but based very closely on the book.
The two versions were very different, the older one being more of a spooky artistic vision of the story, with the 2009 version adding more on to the original story and changing the period of the story to the 1920s, here are some stills from the two films, to compare how each film dealt with the strong visuals of the story.

one of my favourite images from both of the films, is the 60s version of Miss jessel appearing on the lake, we'll never know weather or not Flora sees her aswell

I found the older film much more inspiring, as the atmosphere is beautiful and much more attention paid to the film as a peice of Art, also sticking closer to the book than the newer film, which I found cheesy in parts

Flora in her bedroom

I wanted to create a portrait of Flora sat in her bedroom, where Miss Giddens often becomes frightened of her supposed behaviour, and suspects her of being in league with the Ghosts. I used photographs of rich fabrics for the curtain the the chair and overlayed them onto my basic ink painting again.

Flora at the Lake

Here is my next Image of Flora at the Lake, With Miss Jessel behind her rising from the water. I love the Image of her in black standing solemnly on the lake, so I definately wanted to create an image of that scene.
I started with an Ink painting of the lake and overlates some photographs and another drawing,

The Turn of the Screw - part 1

I completed my first full size Illustration for my Final Major project this week, I have done a portrait of Flora in the dark, dingy rooms of Bly.
I am haply with the image as it is, but I'm going to do some photoshop manipulation to see what I can come up with and see how I can possible improve it
